Conscious creatives – meetings

Conscious creatives

Meeting 1 –

We went over the design logo for the group this meeting, discussing the two different mock designs made. We all agreed that the identity of conscious creatives should sway against using any ‘green’ as this is a little outdated and has been saturated in a lot of sustainable artwork. It was discussed that blue was actually the most neutral colour, and so we should make the logo blue.

Two members will make the poster after decising on the Logo for the ‘Call for submissions’.

Meeting 2 – 6th February

The poster design was finalized, and we decided on the font to go with the logo. It was between Garamond and Futura, and future was decided due to its simplicity going better with the logo and the Union using Futura on all its media.

We also discussed dates for the submission, being the 20thFeb. And the 21st/22ndFeb being when we all go through the submissions together. The week begining 11thMarch will be our sustainability week, with the exhibition being within this week.

For the event space we all agreed that Hyde Park Book Club as being the best option due to it being so close to all the students. If we took held it further into town we thought not as many people would attend.

I took some of the posters down to Vernon street and posted them around the building in hope of getting people to submit who attend Vernon street:IMG_9588IMG_9589IMG_9590IMG_9591IMG_9592

Extending the deadline

After speaking to a couple of non-society members about their submissions and their concerns about handing it in on time, I spoke to the group about a potential extension to the deadline as I did feel it was a very quick turn around of putting the posters up to people having to hand in work.

Here is an example of one of the discussions I had with someone about the deadline:

Here are my messages to the group with my concerns, which Mai kindly sorted through emailing Emma

Meeting 3 – 27th feb

I couldn’t make yesterdays meeting as I had to go to work, however I arranged a phone call with my for today. We just finished the phone call catch up although there was not really much work I could pick up or help with towards the organising, a few things were discussed:

  • HPBC booked for 14th March for the exhibition
  • All the work submitted will be in the exhibition – Mai is going to send me through some of the submissions so I can see the type of work which is going to be displayed
  • They spoke of talking to Grow Wild to see if they want to have an info stall
  • Want to see if the Plant Room want to bring in and sell plants – All agree it would be nice to have the exhibition full of plants. I have said I will bring all of my house plants over because HPBC is so close to my house and I have so many plants.
  • We want the whole event to be as plastic free as possible
  • For the curation we will have the animation on a projector which HPBC already have and we will display things on plinths
  • DOCUMENTATION: I said to Mai that I would happily photograph the event and create a phonebook/catalogue after the event – We discussed me attending the paper making workshop in sustainability week for me to work towards making a sustainable booklet.

Looking through the work

Because I was unable to attend the meeting going through the submissions Mai gave me entrance to the Conscious Creatives email where I was able to go through the entries to get an idea of how submissions work when on the receiving end, and just to see what was submitted. Mai told me the group had decided most of the submissions were suited to the exhibition, so there was no need for me to be selective or give feedback it was purely for me to be involved and see:
